Structure in Quarrying Granite

The dictionary meaning of the word Granite is, - 'A plutonic rock formed by intrusion of molten magma' or for an ordinary man, it is not more than a decorative stone. People used to select granite in terms of their colours only. Any architect or user had ever thought about this colour variation, in granites of different area as well as many colours in a singular plutonic body of granitic intrusion. This all depends on mineral constitution of the particular type of granite. Some minerals are colourful, while the others are not, but strong enough to protect rock weathering and erosion for several years. To know the strength and other properties of granite, one need little knowledge of geology as well as geology of that particular area, approximate age of the granitic body, general petrology of granite and generalised idea of probable mechanism involved in producing granitic magma.

Granite is an igneous rock, and igneous rocks are those which have solidified from a molten condition. Igneous rocks may be of extrusive or intrusive form. Lavas are extrusive forms of molten magma, which have been poured out on the surface and forms the Rhyolites, Dacites, Trachytes and Basalts etc. While the intrusive rocks are erupted in the crust itself or about 10-50 km. in thickness from ground level to below the earth surface.
